Weekly Challenge

Mrs Hickfords Weekly Challenge

Mrs Hickford gave our class a weekly challenge. the rain has stopped me from getting outside to take a photo so mum and I decided to do the daffodil one.

We had a look online and checked out how to make paper daffidols on you tube. there were so many videos it was hard to choose what to pick. Mum picked one and we started after looking in her box of craft stuff. We had to get the right colours for the flowers. 2 different coloured yellow and 1 orange is what we found. Mum went to the baking cupboard and got some cupcake wrappers as well for the middle of some the flowers.

We started by making squares out of the paper and then folded them into a triangle we had to fold them again in half and then into quarters mum said this is using fractions and maths. once we had folded them enough we had to make a cut like a petal. it was really hard to cut the heavier cardboard but mum helped me. we unfolded the paper and they turned out like flower petals. to make some of the trumpets in the middle we cut circles and then cut that in half. cut zigzags and taped them together. WE glued all the petals together on top of each other. Mum used some curling ribbon to wrap the ice cream sticks to make them green for the stems of the flowers. We made two butterflies to go with the flowers.

These are the flowers I liked the most. The butterfly is in the back I haven't coloured them in yet. I like the different styles of petals we were able to make by cutting the different ways.

We are going to find a vase and put them in it and leave it on the table

  1. Hi Toby, What an amazing and beautiful bunch of daffodils. Did it take you long to make?

  2. Toby I love the way you have challenged yourself to make several different kinds of daffodils. When I was younger there were not so many different types but over the years breeders have created so many different varieties. Did you know that there are people who create breed flowers, just like dog breeders! I love the idea of having the daffodil in a vase on the table. They are not easy to find in the shops this year and I don't have many in my garden as the plants in there are mainly natives. Do you have daffodils in you flower garden?
